AfterShokz Titanium Mini Review
Aftershokz Titanium Mini Bone Conduction Headphones. Why Aftershokz Titanium Mini’s? Well, over the years, we have tried many types of headphones and earbuds, so it was important for us to make this article about something that we believe in and use.
We have started this blog on TechEvaluate.com to review everything we use and try with mobile technologies and how it affects our lives. It is our passion and joy to do so.
As the pictures below show and oh how far we have come with Headphones!!
New Technologies – Bone Conduction Headphones
We are continually trying new technologies and products to utilize in our busy lives. We get them from all over the world, so to us, it is important to try it before we talk about them.
Some of the main factors in choosing good Bone Conduction Headphones are Waterproof Rating, Hearing Protection, Fit, Durability, Sound Quality, Price, and if they are Wireless. This f course does not have to be in that particular order but is often how I look at them. I also like Earhook Style Headphones, and they need to be Bluetooth and Wireless.
We thought we would start with something that we use all of the time, and that is the Aftershokz Titanium Mini Bone Conduction Headphones.
Waterproof Rating
We live in Alaska, so we like most everything that is some level of Waterproof for wind, snow, and rain. Personally, the IPX4 waterproof rating is the minimum for rain or sweat for me. I hike and work out winter, summer, and all year round and love outdoor activities
Aftershokz Titanium Mini Bone Conduction Headphones are rated at Sweat Resistant IP55 Certified. This is important when you are outdoors exercising, running, or just walking in the rain.
Hearing Protection
We contend that Bone Conduction Technology is better and safer for Headphones as the transducer (speaker) does not ride in your ear like an earbud does and leaves your ear canal open to the air.
This lets you hear all of your surroundings so you can listen to what is going on around you. We feel that it is also better for your hearing in the long run as it does not pipe the sound down your ear canal and vibrates the sound through the bones of your skull.
Fit
I am constantly listening to Audiobooks, music, etc. So I want my earphones to be easy to wear and light, small and compact around my ears so I can wear sunglasses, summer, and winter hats, or they even can go under a motorcycle or snow machine helmet. Again the Aftershokz Titanium Mini fits the bill and works well in all of these scenarios.
The Aftershokz Titanium Mini Bone Conduction Headphones are wraparound ear hook style headphone’s that ride on your cheekbones around and in front of your ears. There are also two sizes of this particular model, the “Standard” and the “Mini.” The Mini has a shorter headband size for a smaller fit, which I prefer.
The “Standard” is larger obviously than the “Mini,” so for me, the Mini fits better, and I wear under my winter hat quite nicely or a baseball cap the rest of the year. These headphones are designed with athletes in mind, and the wraparound headband is lightweight and flexible.
Durability
They call things in Alaska “Alaska Tough” and they mean it. This is probably one of the toughest environments on earth to live in and the people are the same. The durability of anything hear is essential.
The flexible, lightweight Titanium frame of the same-named Aftershokz “Titanium” Mini Bone Conduction Headphones is helpful because when I am not wearing them on my head, I can slip them into the chest pocket of my jacket and they ride just fine in there and have never been broken. I don’t think you can go wrong with flexible titanium.
They are made of a plastic composite and titanium as the name suggests.
Sound Quality
The sound quality of the Titanium Mini Bone Conduction Headphones is good and is trademarked by Aftershokz and called PremiumPitch+ Stereo Sound. They say it has a “Wide dynamic range, from fine treble to deep bass” and “LeakSlayer” technology that significantly reduces natural sound leakage.
The sound quality of these headphones is quite good, and frequently, I prefer talking on my iPhone with these as opposed to using the iPhone speaker. That is because depending on what phone the other person is using, I can hear better on these and much clearer some times.
The sound quality of Bone Conduction Headphones is not probably ever what it will be with an expensive pair of Bose, Sennheiser, Audio-Technica, or other high-end headphones. But they are perfect for me and an Audiobook when I am out walking in the woods and looking out for Bears in the Alaskan wilderness.
I have ridden Harleys for years, and it has not been easy on my ears, so I am probably not the best judge on sound quality, but they work great for me. The charge time is also perfect, with six hours of music and calls on a single charge, and I usually can use them for a couple of days off and on without recharging.
When I do recharge them, I just leave them hanging on my USB charger on my desk or night stand and start all over again the next morning.
Price
The price of the type of Bone-conduction headphones is important for a few reasons. First of all, Aftershokz comes in a price range from a high of $159.00 Down to a low of $49.95.
The price for these Aftershokz Titanium Mini Bone Conduction Headphones is $79.95 for the Mini or the Standard on the Aftershokz Website and on Amazon, where Aftershokz also sells them.
I personally bought the Titanium Mini’s because they are the only ones that come in two sizes.
This is a middle of the road price for many Bone Conduction Headphones and pretty good for this product. You certainly get what you pay for in electronics, and much of what I have seen can certainly be sub-par and fall apart easily.
Wireless Bluetooth
I don’t know about you, but I love the Wireless Bluetooth technology and how you can be listening to a book and seamlessly answer the phone and have a conversation. As soon as I am done talking, my iPhone takes me right back to where I was in my audiobook on Audible or Kindle.
These are incredible times we live in to have these kinds of technology. You know I am a huge proponent of listening to audiobooks and tell anyone I know who will listen to what a cool thing it is to do.
There is nothing like walking through the woods on my morning walk on the way to the ocean and being able to learn and listen to all while enjoying my incredible surroundings in Alaska.
Final Thoughts on Aftershokz Titanium Mini Bone Conduction Headphones
Aftershokz Titanium Mini Bone Conduction Headphones are an excellent product overall, Aftershokz is a good company, and they are doing their homework and continuously doing the research on bone conduction headphone technology, patenting new products, and coming up with new designs.
So for me, I would definitely give these Headphones a top rating for the price and quality. I am pleased with them and use them all of the time.
